Essential Storage Tips for Sublimation Blanks: Keep Your Materials in Top Condition

If you’ve purchased a large number of sublimation blanks, or if you’re a sublimation blanks distributor, then storing unused sublimation materials properly is absolutely essential. Signzworld has compiled some practical and professional storage recommendations:

Keep Dry – Prevent Moisture and Mold

This is the core principle and lifeline for storing sublimation blanks. Most blanks have a special coating on the surface, and if they absorb moisture, the heat transfer effect will be compromised—resulting in blurry images, watermarks, or uneven prints.

Store them in environments with relative humidity between 40%–60%. Use moisture-proof mats on the floor, sealed plastic containers, or add desiccants like silica gel. If you are in a region with a rainy season or high humidity, we recommend using a dehumidifier or air conditioning to keep conditions optimal.

Avoid Direct Sunlight and High Temperatures

UV rays and heat can degrade the coating of sublimation blanks, causing yellowing, brittleness, or aging.

Keep blanks in a shaded, ventilated, and cool storage area. Do not store them near heat-emitting devices or in areas exposed to sunlight for long periods.

Protect from Dust, Oil, and Scratches

The coating on sublimation blanks directly affects transfer quality. If the surface is damaged, the blank may become unusable—especially true for items like metal sheets and ceramic mugs.

We recommend individually wrapping each blank in plastic sleeves, bubble wrap, or protective bags. Store different materials and types separately. Also, avoid touching the printing surface with bare hands whenever possible.

Avoid Heavy Stacking and Pressure

Certain materials like MDF boards, ceramics, and glass are fragile. Excessive weight can cause scratches, warping, or breakage.

Use dividers or bubble foam between layers during stacking. Fragile items should be stored separately. When stacking is necessary, place heavier items at the bottom and lighter ones on top.

Track Shelf Life and Perform Regular Inspections

Although sublimation blanks don’t have a fixed expiration date like food, their coatings can degrade over time.

Label each batch with the date of storage. Try to use materials within 6 months, especially those with high moisture risk like fabrics and boards. For larger inventories, it’s best to perform regular quality checks or random testing.

Material-Specific Storage Tips by Signzworld

  • Ceramic Mugs: Keep them in original packaging boxes, avoid impact, and include desiccants.
  • MDF Boards: Store in a sealed, moisture-proof environment. Avoid bending.
  • Pillows and T-Shirts: Keep away from oil and dust. Store by hanging or folding, with moisture control.
  • Metal Sheets & Acrylics: Do not remove protective films. Use anti-scratch layers between items.
